The Regency Walled Garden in Marlay Park is home to the Orangerie that we use for art classes and exhibitions. It was built primarily as a kind of glass house I expect, for the cirtus fruit plants, but honestly I can’t see how they would keep warm at all. The place is freezing! Weather aside, on one fine early summer day, I caught this beautiful scene and quickly sketched it down in my sketchbook and have done many paintings of it and the irises since. The colours of the bearded irises, and mauve wisteria against the red terracotta brick and the greenish blue door all sang together to give a scene which looked like the South of France. It was pure joy!

Postal rates have been raised again unfortunately but I do my best to keep prices as low as possible for overseas. Local post within Ireland is €8 flat fee.
