Marlay Park, Dublin, Watercolour painting.

5 × 7 Painting In a 10 × 12 inch Frame

This is a small version of a painting I sold recently called Bench and Blossom. The gentleman who’s birthday gift it was for, often sat on this bench after his morning walk. He loved the painting and even took a photo of it where it hung near his armchair. One day after his walk, I was told, he was sitting on the bench, when he was approached by another gentleman. It was odd, because the other benches were vacant, but ‘this’ was the bench he wanted to sit at. It turned out, that it was his wife Sandra’s bench, and she bequethed it to Marlay Park after she died. When the two men started to exchanges stories of their attachment to the bench, and a photo of my painting was shown, they shared a tearful moment. Then quickly, the owner of the painting said to the widower, “I suppose you’ll want me to give you that painting now!” There was a pause and then they chuckled gently. “No, no… you’re grand!”

It’s when I hear stories back like this from my customers that make me feel I have a real purpose and I so love what I do!
